Strategically located within the sheltered deep waters of the Cromarty Firth, the Port of Nigg is Global Energy Group’s flagship multi-user facility, servicing the offshore wind, oil & gas, and nuclear sectors. As the largest port in the Cromarty Firth, it offers a unique value proposition for major energy infrastructure projects across the UK.
Since acquiring the site in 2011, Global Energy Group has invested over £120 million into Nigg’s redevelopment, transforming it into a premier renewable energy superhub. In 2023, the Port of Nigg was awarded Green Freeport status as part of the Inverness & Cromarty Firth Green Freeport and is now a designated customs and tax site.
With over 1,200 metres of deep-water quayside (12m LAT), a 50t/m² ground load capacity, and more than 450,000m² of designated laydown space, the port can handle the heaviest offshore components and support multiple large-scale projects simultaneously. Hard seabed conditions allow for accommodation of the world’s largest jack-up installation vessels.
Nigg houses over 17,000m² of covered fabrication space and one of the largest dry docks of its kind in Europe. The facility boasts a designated paint & blasts shop, extensive warehousing options, offices & camp accommodation together with a multi-discipline workforce with a proven track record in project delivery.
The port has played a critical role in supporting more than 3.5GW of offshore wind developments, including Beatrice, Moray East, Seagreen and Moray West. Positioned for future ScotWind, INTOG and Celtic Sea opportunities, the Port of Nigg continues to be the UK’s leading hub fixed and floating offshore wind logistics, fabrication, and assembly.
