Meeting training requirements for the international energy industry
Nigg Skills Academy (NSA) was set up in March 2012 to address the energy skills gaps in the oil & gas and emerging renewables energy industry. NSA has established itself as a leading industry led education facility delivering "work ready" MA trainess to their employers after an intensive 16 week training period within their facility at the 238 acre Nigg Energy Park in the Cromarty Firth.
With a wide cross section of employers from across Scotland and the outer Islands using the facility to train their people, this facility is unique in being able to add value to their offering, given their industrial base at Nigg Energy Park. Their Modern Apprenticeship in Fabrication and Welding training is an intensive 16 week course to provide the equivalent of a full year (less 4 hours) within a college environment. Alongside the National Certificate and Fabrication and Welding, this allows the trainees to gain advanced knowledge and skills to provide them with the back bone of skills to give their employer the confidence to complete meaningful work when they go into their workplace to comoplete their education. In real terms, this reduces the normal 4 year apprenticeship down to an average of 18 months.
